New Book: “The Bear Marches West: 12 Scenarios for 1980s NATO vs Warsaw Pact Wargames”

The Bear Marches West - coverMy new book, The Bear Marches West, is now available. A PDF sample, which includes one full scenario, can be downloaded from my website. The full description is below:

The Bear Marches West contains 12 scenarios set during a fictional Warsaw Pact invasion of West Germany during the 1980s. All the scenarios are based on battles depicted in well-known novels, and are designed to be used with whatever rules the players are most comfortable with. Each scenario includes the battle’s context, weather conditions, deployments, force lists and a colour map.

The scenarios range in scale from small skirmishes, with a company on each side, to large engagements, with Soviet regiments bearing down on smaller but better-equipped NATO units.

It is now available at Wargame Vault, Amazon (print, Kindle), the Apple iBookstore and other e-book vendors. As with all of my books, SOTCW members and subscribers to my mailing list can get it at a 20% discount.

  1. Neat! Brings back great memories of playing classic Avalon Hill games with my buddies. Team Yankee and Red Storm Rising were two of the books that pushed me into the Armored Corps. Perhaps I should dust off my copy of Avalon Hill’s MBT.

What’s your preferred game system for these scenarios?

    1. They’re designed for miniatures rules, rather than a board game, but I’m sure it’d be a trivial matter to convert as long as you have a suitable hex map. I’ve never been entirely happy with a commercial set of miniatures rules, so I ended up writing my own. They’re not in a fit state for public consumption, though 🙂

The commercial sets I was happiest with were Combined Arms, WRG’s Modern Rules (1st edition) and Fist Full of Tows 1 & 2. Any of those should be suitable.
