Today is Remembrance Day in the UK. I have a poppy, and I shall observe the two minute silence at 11:00.
For me, this is a day to remember everyone that has been harmed by war. Whatever their nationality, and whether they were civilian or military. That’s a lot of people, and so each year I focus on one particular group.
This year, I will focus on refugees. The men, women, and children that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, when war comes to their homes and forces them to flee. The people that suddenly find themselves homeless and needing to make a new life somewhere else.
I don’t have any answers to the problem of refugees. I suspect the only real answer is to stop having wars, but I can’t imagine that happening in my lifetime. And so people will continue to lose their homes, become refugees, and rely on the kindness of strangers.
